Early on in the year, I remember how confused I was initially upon hearing “Aaron Pierre, that's Mufasa.” Huh? What's that about? Mufasa, I know. Aaron P–, I don't.
Then, I stumbled on that trendy video and went, “Oh!” Honestly, that was it—at first. I was preparing to write fifteen exams, so it was the least of my worries at the time. Even after watching, my only real thought was, “His eye color is strange.” (Maybe I’m too Nigerian?)
“Attraction feeds on attention”
Anyway, no thanks to the algorithm, I started to see more Aaron Pierre on every social medium (save for substack—I love you guys). The tipping point for me was when I got to hear his voice up close from an interview. That video was about one five minute(s) long.
Ohhh! I see now.
Then, I took in his features and started smiling. As as how? It wasn't just his looks, but his whole calm, articulate aura that drew me in. A quick moment of reckoning: He is a beautiful man.
Gotta give to the Master of the Universe! He's an intelligent designer indeed. But let me quickly add—the subtitle of this piece reads, “Yahweh, that's Agunechemba,” loosely translating to God being the Lion of the Tribe of Judah in Igbo language.
So, what’s the lesson here?
Definitely not lions—God is Agunechemba forever, and Aaron Pierre? That's Mufasa till whenever. It's not up for comparison.
What I hope to bring out of this is the fact that one moment, I was indifferent about the whole Aaron Pierre trend, and the next, I was giggling at a roar in an interview (what?!) when I should be studying Pharmaceutical chemistry. Yeah, that.
But isn't that how distractions work?
Some are harmless, even amusing, but they can subtly pull us away from what truly matters in that moment. Whether we believe or not, what we give our attention to, deeply influences our hearts and vice versa (Proverbs 4:23).
However, God invites us to fix our eyes on Him. Nigerians often call people who stare “looku-looku.” It’s not exactly a compliment, but if you apply the same principle with God, He won’t find you weird. Gaze all you want—you’ll glow (read: be transformed) more than you can imagine (2 Corinthians 3:18).
Distractions will always be there—voices, faces, trends—not necessarily bad, but not necessarily beneficial either. What truly matters is the quality of our walk with the Lord (which, ultimately, defines the quality of our life).
So, here's another reminder for us to adjust our focus as we go into a new month. It’s always profitable to give our attention to what feeds our faith, all day, everyday.
Can we make a decision not to let the algorithm set us up for doom this early, Amen?
(On that note, I hope when you get asked who Aaron was in the Bible, you won't say he was Melchizedek’s cousin or Peter's uncle. Just saying)
UPDATES:
Quality Time is declared open for 2025 in the name of the Lord. So, Happy new year, everyone.
I just survived another hectic semester in school, and I'm finally done writing exams, so I’m fully back on here till it's necessary to take another break. (Breaks are one of my favourite things in the world)🥹.
What month comes next? That's right—February. Plenty cooking. Antici-wait :)
My draft is ready for you. Are you ready for us? Let me know here:
