Highs, Lows and the Truth

A poem and a promise.

Highs
he lived for them—
the flame of lust,
the thrill of alcohol,
the high of marijuana,
the grip of power,
the allure of fame,
the endless struggle with identity.

Lows
she dreaded them—
the pain of loss,
the burden of regret,
the weight of shame,
the shadow of depression,
the emptiness of loneliness,
the endless struggle with identity. 

And the truth? 
the truth is Christ,
 in Him, 
what every high promised but failed to deliver,
in Him, 
what every low projected but failed to recover,
in Him, abundant life,
in Him, eternal life.

So,
whether highs or lows,
thrills or tears, 
only one truth,
the truth—
Christ,
sustains and sets free
because He is
the only identity of freedom.

Hello, everyone. How was this one?

The original draft of this poem dates back to the 21st of October, 2024, at about 3 a.m. It was born from a quiet moment of midnight reflection, and while it's been through a bit of adjustment, it remains very dear to my heart. I hope it resonated with you just as much. 💛
