My people, my people, how una dey? Now that I think about it, I doubt I've ever began a post with that kind of greeting haha. Usually, my style is asking a question, or beginning with an affirmation of some sort. Anyway, this was supposed to grace your inboxes yesterday but I had network challenges at some point, and was unable to complete my edits because I changed location. Then I thought, “you know what? I'll complete my edits and send it out today (saturday).”
{P.s- I'm feeling generous, so I have something for you at the tail end of today post. No peeking🌚}.
In lieu of my last post and how I promised to update you about a week long school event I was planning for…
My preparation - 80%
My participation - 60%
How much fun I had - 50%
For context, it was a health week organised by my faculty. It featured an opening ceremony, a community medical outreach, sports, bonfire, picnic and a dinner/award night, among others. Not going to bore you with the details now, I'm simply making good my promise to tell you about it (I'm assuming you remember👀).
Sooooo, after my endless Pinterest search that I showed you on the last post, for the dinner, I finally went for an asymmetrical maxi orange dress with gathers at the waistline. Super comfortable, and very elegant. I think I'm beginning to really love maxi dresses lately! It gives off an interesting silhouette on me as a slim-smallish girl.
That said, there are more pressing matters. It's about time…
Thing is, I belong to a community of young people who love the Lord, and we're called “The Living Brooks.” A few days ago at our meeting, we were having this really interesting discussion about the why's and how's of what we claim to believe as Christians. My sister who leads the group put out a disclaimer, calling these questions, “the quiet part.” Sure enough, we didn't have answers to all of them but some of these questions put forward a challenge for us to have a logical defense to what we claim to believe. Yes, our faith is supernatural but trust me, there's a logical aspect. God is an intelligent creator, and creation bears witness to this.
Can you defend THE faith? Or are you the type who shys away from theological matters? Many of us have encountered people we tried to witness to ask us a tons of (difficult) questions. Haven't you hoped that when you get to speak with people about the gospel, they won't ask you difficult questions (because I sure have). While we may not have answers to all the questions we get asked, or even the questions we ourselves have, it doesn't mean we must leave it at that. God isn't threatened by our questions. He is who He is, regardless.
Recently , I heard a pastor talk about how much of a curious generation we are. We ask questions some of our fathers in faith had, but swept under the carpet. You might not be a big fan of theological debates (especially the ones on twitter) but I'm a firm believer that, although stretching, these discussions are good for us, even though sometimes we may fall into extremes.
Once, I had a lot of questions and I began to research on them, up to the point that I started growing interest in apologetics, and I'd watch video upon videos online on how to defend the faith. I even took some timely Bible courses at the time. But after that meeting with my community a few days ago, I might be needing a refresher!
Finally, two things I’d like to say.
One, if it is hurt that is bringing you to a place of asking questions about God (His character) and His church, ask Him to help you to find answers in the right places and materials. Keep an open mind and be discerning when asking or seeking for answers. An example would be: “Why is God good?” rather than “why is God not good?”
Two, understand that you have a part to play to make a difference. Oftentimes, we want to point fingers—at that pastor who had a moral failure; people you trusted in the church who hurt you deeply; your believing parents who are a far cry from who they portray themselves to be…the list goes on and on. We sometimes act like in some way, we also haven't contributed to the society's depravity in our ignorance. I heard someone say, we want to be our own lawyers but other people's judge.
Selah.
Dear beloved readers,
Thank you so much for your love & support. Also, about me feeling generous? (Drumroll, please) It’s been a while we last had fiction, yes? It's about time! So, here's the deal: All through the month of August, expect sweet stories to grace your inbox–not biweekly–but every Friday!!! Would it be a series or short stories? I'll leave you to a wide guess 🥂.
Yours in Quality time,
Adebola🦋.
You looked beautiful even from the back view. Glad you’re back and would be showing up here more often.
I’ve also been curious about learning more based on the debates I’ve been seeing recently but sometimes it makes me feel exhausted. It’s necessary to know how to defend our faith. We also need to trust the help of the Holy Spirit and allow Him work on hearts as God is the One that saves, we can only do our part.
Ouuuh! Eagerly anticipating the fiction! I think it'd be short stories 🌚. Am I right?
And your message was well passed across! Is there any way new people can join the community?
