Making peace with my body insecurities

Failed to render LaTeX expression — no expression found

Of all things, it had to be scanty hairlines

I love you, Mom

But if I had a choice?

Anything but your hairlines.

Of all things, it had to be a slender, petite frame

For some reason, I always wanted to grow up big

It’s a trait I admire in my Dad’s kin

Maybe that's why I feel pressured to fit in. 

Of all things, it had to be skinny legs paired with a prominent calf 

Why, the more I paid attention to it,

The more unflattering it seemed. 

Of all things, I had to be this kind of beautiful,

And indeed I am–BEAUTIFUL

What more can I say?

Beauty comes in many forms, and this is mine.

Me :)

I will praise You because I have been remarkably and wonderfully made. Your works are wonderful, and I know this very well. [Psalm 139:14 HCSB].

• What does “beauty” mean to you, and how can you redefine it to include your own unique features?

• Who/what have you blamed for looking a certain way?

• Can you do something today to embrace your perceived imperfections and celebrate your individuality? (E.g in my case, I chose to write and share this piece)
